Riding Instructor/Coach

Justine E. Betzler

Justine grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and competed on the east coast in the hunters, jumpers and equitation. Justine was also involved in fox hunting with the Sewickley Hunt. After graduating from high school, Justine attended The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where she completed her undergraduate degrees in materials engineering, german language and mathmatics.  During college Justine continued to compete in the hunters and jumpers.  While at the University of Alabama, Justine saw a need and stepped forward to help start the University of Alabama IHSA program. Later in her collegiate career, Justine was also given the opportunity to scrimmage various Division I NCEA teams as an Alabama rider. Justine's experience also includes working under various professionals as a groom, barn manager and an assistant.  

Riding Director

Merrilee "Mimi" Wroten

A 1993 graduate of Sweet Briar College, she taught and rode professionally in New Jersey  before returning  to central Virginia to become a member of SBC’s highly acclaimed Riding Program staff.  Most recently assuming the role of Director of riding in January of 2011.  Mrs. Wroten has been active in the equestrian community on a national level as the coach of award winning teams , holds a “R” Judge’s Card with the United States Equestrian Federation, is a United States Hunter/Jumper Association Certified Trainer, and has served locally on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Virginia Hunter/Jumper Association.
